I needed a method to create perfectly accurate mortising operations with my router table. I came up with a method by which to do so as shown in this post.
I’m no Pat Warner, but I thought I’d utilize the incredibly minute adjustments that are capable with the Incra LS Router table system.
The concept is really quite simple: add a movable fence to the existing fence. Utilize this movable fence to secure the work, then raise the bit up into the work tangentially as the fence moves back and forth creating the mortise.
The stops for the horizontal operation can be added to the router table fence. The movable fence is not secured tightly to the router table fence – it’s only held in place secure enough to maintain consistency in the placement of the workpiece.
The tenons can also be cut with this setup. All that’s required is to cut the face of the tenons away from the fence. Cut the first side, flip the piece, and then cut the second. Roundover to fit the mortise.
