This bed was built for grandson #1, he was really into the “Cars” movie at the time and I guess I was too. It is made from MDF almost exclusivly. I start most project by drawing them up in Autocad then after the design is worked out I then proceed with the construction. I used latex paint applied with a HPLV sprayer, I was not sure how that would work out when I started but it seems to be a fairly durable finish after three coats of color and one coat of clear.
The front of the bed is a toybox and the spoiler doubles as a bookshelf. I say doubles as it is also a spoiler because my grandson claims the car will go 500 mph and we adults know that you need some downforce at that speed.
The only downside to this bed is the weight. Once it is in place it is almost impossible to move. That MDF is heavy stuff. I built it however to be completely taken apart if it needs to be moved more then a foot or two.
