This project is in honor of my wife’s first deer. Wouldn’t you know it, the very first day of the 2010 season, on her very first year hunting with me this is what my wife brought home. I was, & still am so proud of her. I decided to make a wall mount for her trophy for our living room wall. As you can see it’s made of oak, with a purpleheart ring around her photo. I also used some cut off 44 mag shells as part of the decoration as this was the round used for this harvest. The edge is done with some black flocking & I finished it with a spray on poly. I covered the skull with some very thin copper and called it done. I hope I haven’t offended any anti deer hunters out there. We love the sport & hunt for food. Thanks for checking out my latest posting. Good day to you all!

I read too fast and thought the caption said “My First Trophy Wife”, SO disapointing. I’m joking of course, great job with the mount.

I read the post and thought – “Wasn’t he her first trophy?”

Nice harvest; nice job – great memory! I’m jealous. All the deer that walk through my back yard are considered “pets”.

Looks great I really like the idea of using copper for the skull wrap

Nice. Nice deer. Good spread for a 6 point. I’ve got a 6 point rack in the basement waiting to be mounted, but it is kind of spindly compared to your wifes.

Where did you find the pattern for the shield? I like this better than the pattern I have.

RickB,
I just mimicked one my wife bought me for my first deer, she got it at walmart about 11 years ago. Ya I am extremely proud of her for her accomplishment. It measures 15 1/2” wide & 10” high. I see you live in Illinois, there is some real good opportunity out your way, Pike County especially. Good luck with your mount, feel free to copy mine if you want to.
