Been playing with this one for a bit, mostly practicing my finishing skills I guess. Haven’t decided if it’s going to be a handgun case or a humidor. I considered just lining it with black crushed velvet and eggcrate for the handgun idea, but I’ve never really tried a humidor. Have to line it with cedar, probably put in a secondary lid of plexi and some sort of foam seal to help retain moisture. Let ya know how it turns out!

Nice box. The Maple looks like a window into the box. Did you stain the Oak?

I did stain the oak. It’s just a Minwax Red Mahogany. I’m hearing more and more that your basic Home Depot line of Minwax stuff is almost considered “bush league” among experienced woodworkers! I’d love any input on a better product, and i’m sure they exist. Just lately been playing with the poly, cutting it maybe 10% with mineral spirits, and doing a final rub-on coat. Seems to work. Thanks for the compliments guys!
