Made this as a Christmas gift for my wife (still trying to figure out how I’m going to hang it on the wall). Stained with a mixture of fruitwood/cherry and natural Danish Oil, and finished with 4 coats of Minwax hand rubbed satin poly. Am thinking I’ll mount it on a wall using a similar system to hanging a mantel to make it look free floating. Instead of using rebar, though, I thought I’d use bolts with holes drilled in the backs of the wings to hang it on. That way, if we ever move, we can take it with us. Thanks for looking.

Very nice piece of art. It looks pretty massive, good luck hanging it.

What a beautiful bird! Love it when you can see the vision in the wood and just go with it. I bet she loved it. Did you ever figure out a way to suspend it?

rivergirl: No, I haven’t figured it out yet. Still thinking I’ll go with the bolts and holes drilled, but may decide to hang it by chains instead. Not sure what might be best. I’d hate to drill into this piece and not be able to have it work the way I intended. Got any ideas?

Thanks.

Maybe a teeny weeny hole in each wing, fishing wire and a small dark washer (unattached) on the underside?

Not a bad idea! I’ll keep that in mind because I want the piece to appear to be “flying” when hung. Thanks.
