Many of you might remember me posting “Simple Saw Upgrade” about a year ago. Here’s a shot of that version of a hand’s free safety stop:
As you can see, the stop is long, but not wide. While the stop was positioned well for most applications, there have been many cuts and jigs that require standing in a position that made the stop less convenient. My new stop allows for a knee/foot bump from any practical stance. The opening in the middle leaves the blade adjustment wheel accessible. The hinges are secured to blocks that are secured to the bottom of the front rail. I replaced the machine bolts that connected the tubing to the rail with longer ones to accommodate.
The hole is to provide access to start the saw, but to block any accidental starts. I attached the strip to the rear of the stop to cover the gap between the stop and the off switch.
No peeking at the in process router table. Still got a lot of work to do there as you can see.

That is a good idea. I don’t know how many times I have been cutting sheet goods and have had to hunt and feel for the shut-off switch.
I will add this to my list of projects.
Thanks.

A hands free stop comes in very handy. You can now do it from both sides of the saw, well done.

Very clever – you should patten it and call it the Saw Stop, or is that name already taken.
