The original of this piece (or a close approximation) is by Scottish designer Charles Rennie Mackintosh. It was made of oak and slightly larger. I think it looks great ebonized, and it certainly kept the material cost down.

Wonderful piece David. I really like painted furniture as long as it is appropriate to the design, which is certainly the case here.
