Here is a built-in entertainment center I made for myself. The two cabinets are made from birch plywood. Due to the fact that the front and inside of the cabinet are the only visible parts I went the plywood option. On the interior I just applied a coat of poly to keep the light color and make it easier to see inside the cabilnet when open.
The doors and face frames are made from solid cherry with a coat of cherry stain. The center panels of the doors I made using a Figured cherry veneer. I applied the veneer old school style with clamps, cawls, and glue. This was my first attempt at veneering. A few mistakes were made. I think I will build a vacuum system for the next set(after seeing this my mom is all over me with projects she “needs” me to build).
I came up with idea of hanging the TV on a wooden panel in the middle of the installation process. Unfortunately I did not have any plywood left over that was large enough to fit. So in an effort to save some moola I mitered the four outside pieces to go around a center panel also made of plywood. I stained to match the rest of the center. This worked out well since the bulk of the panel is covered by the TV. You can see the framing I extended to support the TV
