This Burl was growing beside my house. Only problem was it was on my neighbors property. I asked if I could cut the tree down and make him a bowl, he was happy for the swap. The tree was already dead, so I promptly turned the bowl. It now is n his house and his wife had a fit over it. It is 5” wide and close to 5” tall. It had some rot and spalting in it as well. The rot is hard to get the shine on but the rest of the bowl took the lacquer well. Enjoy, Russell

It is absolutely breathtaking. Always nice to have a “fit” over your piece. It’s glorious.

I just posted one like this last week. Don’t you just love the natural edge, the turmoil of the grain inside and the added beauty affect of the rot in it’s finished state? With it’s off balance it gets a little scary at times but the end result, as your project shows, is worth it. Very nice indeed. The fit your neighbors wife had I hope was one of joy. She’s the lucky one to have a thing of beauty out of something that they probably thought of as an eye sore in their yard. Like Roper said, hope you were able to keep the rest of the tree because there are some more diamonds in the rough, in the crotch joints, waiting for you to bring out their beauty. Good job, let’s see some more from the tree of joy.

Man nice deal for both of you, What a great looking bowl. Sure they really love it and can tell everyone that is came from a tree on the property…
