I was lbrowsing the projects about an hour ago when I came across this really nice mallet by Joey. So I went out to the farm and ranch supply looking for a brass bushing but found nothing.

Instead I found this hitch ball made in America, put it on a hickory handle also made in America : ) and got me a nice little carving mallet. Thanks Joey for the inspiration.

Pretty cool idea, it looks quite heavy though.

Thanks all, the ball is hollow so it is just the right weight. I have been using it and it has a great feel to it. It delivers a compact deliberate blow.

I will be making another one as a gift

Interesting. I had the same problem trying to find a brass bushing here. Thanks for the idea. Nice solution.
