Poor ol’Billy is getting on in years and having trouble getting up onto the couch (much to the wifes delight by the way). I decided to build him a “Billy Bed” for his conveyance and comfort. All the wood is reclaimed from wood/furniture that was thrown away during last years city cleanup.

I need the practice on how to use the band-saw so I added some drop sides to aid in his in/out of bed ventures. I have a new router table that I used to round over all the edges so he doesn’t get splinters or cut. The legs I turned myself on my used but new to me lathe; I tried my darn-est to make all four legs identical. lets just say I can use a little more practice, but I was close!

He looks very happy with his new bed. Good job.

“Woof woof yip grr woof… panting…. woof bark!”

The above message dictated by Roger-dog to Billy The Wonder Dog.

*I don’t speak dog so ill just have to assume that because Roger is a good dog and avid woodworker-helper-dog his message follows all the posting rules.

A great solution for Billy. It sure looks like he approves.

Billy is sharing his new bed with his best friend Tiger Lilly (Peter Pan) so I guess the Billy Bed is a success story now.

Love the bed. Nice to have a lathe. My next project is to build a tredlelathe like the one Roy Underhill uses. Very cheap and seems to work well. Your feet looks good to me. I don’t think anyone will be down there with calipers :) As Charles Neil would say, “the one that comes out funny, lets just call that the back leg” :)

Thanks all, the cats (three now) have completely taken over the bed, Billy is bummed out over this ;-D. Guess I’ll have to build a cat proof bed for poor Billy.

Billy passed away the 5th of April 2012, a sad day for all of us. He was 15 yrs old and had a wonderful life and made us very happy to have him with us all those years.
