I made this marking gauge after I got sticker shock looking at them on line.
The woods are maple, bloodwood, padauk.
I used a brass knob and brass bolt. I filed the head of the bolt flat and used some super glue to attach it to the nut.
I also inlaid a flat brass strip into the top.
Finished with lacquer and good old Johnson’s paste wax.
I haven’t used it yet, but it has a nice feel and I think it will do fine. The pictures don’t show the cutting blade, as it wasn’t installed when I took these pictures. I made it out of 1/4” steel round stock and drilled a hole thru the top and used a brass nut and bolt thru the side to keep it in place.

That took some precision work making it! I too had the sticker shock, but didn’t think I had the necessary precision to make one. Good job!
