This box is made from 2 different turning blocks that I bought at the local Woodcraft store.
I ripped them on my table saw to make the top and sides. It was one of those projects that fight you all the way. That is why it has taken me so long to make it.
I would work on it until something didn’t turn out right and I would put it aside for a few weeks.
Well, I finally got it done.
I think it turned out ok, and I learned a lot by doing this little box. First time I tried splines on the corners. I should have put a blade in that would cut a flat bottom, I will do so next time.
I can’t describe how nice this wood is. As you move it around in the light, it looks like a hologram and changes colors. It’s really beautiful wood.
I finished it with 7 coats of lacquer, sanding between coats and finishing it off with Johnson’s paste wax.

Thanks for looking

-- Chuck

Very nice! Wish I could create something as nice. Maybe if I practice a lot.

Nice work and very pretty Bloodwood. It does seem to shimmer. I like the hinges on the outside of the box. The lst time I did that, an old timer at a show said I cheated. I guess because it is easier than cutting them in the lip. I think it works with your box.

-- Robert, so much inspiration here, and now time to work!!!
