With the recent addition of my bandsaw, I have been looking for different types of boxes to make. I was searching youtube for some ideas and came across a video showing a guitar bandsaw box. I went to the website:
and contacted Dave (what a wonderful guy) to ask if he sold plans for the guitar. He was very nice and sold me the plans even though they aren’t listed on his site.
I only modified the drawer pulls, I cut out small guitars.
Anyway, the wood used is spalted maple I got from someone that thought it was junk (got it dirt cheap).
I finished it with 6 coats of Arm-R-Seal oil & eurethane.
While my guitar box isn’t nearly as nice as Mr. Watkins’ I am very happy with it.
I made this for my nephew who is a budding artist in the music business.
My sister video taped him opening it (they live in a different state), and his reaction was worth more than any amount of money.
What I learned….
How to let go when it was done.
CA glue doesn’t adhere to polyeurethane at all (big bummer)
Learned how to shape with a sanding drum.
I am getting better at sanding with the grain.
What I need to learn…
how to apply the topcoat around the drawer pulls without getting streaking.
The dimensions are 16.5” X 6” X 3”
I hope you enjoy.
