~ and the cheap thrill of showing off some more of my other talent :)

I have decided I do not like mitered picture frames for my drawing and paintings. Sure, I’ll still make them for others, but I have about 5 more frames to build this month and I can’t really do something simple for my own work. I have done this frame a few times before, black walnut with figured black cherry corners, 32×24.

Your illustration though much more modern, reminds me somehwhat of A Rackham. So how did you do the corners. router?

The corner detail looks very cool and unique. Can you describe how you made the corners and possibly upload a closer picture of a corner? Great work!

Uh, yeah… you have other talents as well. Very nice drawing. I’d like to see some detail of the frame corners… they look clever.

Hey Sorry about not checking this project for a while. I searched my photos and I can’t find any close ups of the corner for this picture, but I have one on another post ~ http://lumberjocks.com/projects/33878
This one went out to the client an hour after I finished the frame.. finish wasn’t even cured yet, but thats why I do danish oil, with a heavy varnish/beeswax top coat…. durable and fixable (and my favorite finish).

I did the corners by hand the sides are 3/4” thick and the corners are 1” thick so the dovetail is blind from the back. I used the router to bevel the inside, and I liked the rounded corners the router made… very 70’s feel, but the shape looks more like an arrow pointing into the frame and does not detract from the joinery.

Thanks for the comments.
