This cabinet is the result of having some really nice veneer laying around the shop and needing to build a cabinet for a very specific space in our house. It’s built in the style of a dining room buffet/server, but sits in our living room – the dimensions and style just worked really well for the space.
It’s made from solid Bubinga with Curly Maple Veneers. The drawers and top have Madrone burl veneer diamond shapes inset into them. The top’s diamond is actually a quad bookmatch framed with the curly maple and trimmed with cocobolo for an accent.
The bubinga boards all have really exceptional color and grain, but the 8/4 board used for the top had some wonderful figure to it (you can kind of see it in last picture).
The hardware was actually one of the harder decisions on the entire cabinet (which was kind of a freeform design and building exercise for me – I kind of made it up as I went along). But the wife came through and helped me find this at the local Restoration Hardware. It’s actually my favorite thing about the cabinet!

I like the clean and crisp look of the contrast in the bubinga and maple; the curve on the outside of the legs is great. the legs really stick out; kinda like the Morris twins.

You certainly didn’t butcher those pieces of wood! Wow! I suppose it was just something you whipped up out of scraps over a couple of weekends? Excellent design and execution. Kudos.
