This was another progect that was spawned from boredom. Idle hands put to work, I started milling a piece of Olive burl that I found at our local firewood yard (love that place) and the colors were beautiful.
While I was there I also found some choice logs of Olive wood. The table top and frame is made mostly of Poplar, I decided to spice things up a bit and add some Ebony to the mix. As the table progressed I thought “hey why not add a space that could be useful without adding a drawer” so I added a bottom and Ta-Da! instant Hideatable. I used the Olive wood in the legs and to the frame of the table and used the burl on the top as well as Ebony to accent the burl. I hope to finish it soon.
Thanks for the view.
Jim

That’s gorgeous, Jim! How is the top constructed? Like a butcherblock?

I only see one problem, to be honest: Its a terrible place to hide anything important because someone would steel the whole table just because it’s so beautiful. (They might realize some time later that there was a hidden compartment.)
But seriously, great job and great design.
