TRIPOD: for Iphone or Digital Camera

Hey guys. This is a tripod I made out of scrap wood for my Iphone4. I started a blog on it while building it, but didnt get around to taking any more pictures after the first blog .....so gave up on it (it shows some of the mechanics of it up close, plus a blue print of the tripod base you can print out and cut out on the bandsaw).

The tripod’s legs are able to extend and retract for extra height, as well as the dowel rod in the middle. The dowel rod can also turn 360 degrees. This makes it a fully functional tripod. When both legs and dowel are fully extended it sits about 5.5’ tall. When they are both retracted it sits at only about 2.5’. There is also a tilting mechanism to allow the camera to be tilted backwards and forwards. Everything is oak and Walnut.

The case that holds the Iphone can be taken off of the 1/4-20 threaded rod so that a digital camera can be placed on it instead. The case can also be set on the tripod vertical or horizontal depending on which type of pictures/video you want to take.

To make the metal bar, that allows the camera to tilt backwards and forwards, I used a Galv Spike, and cut some kerfs into it, and bent it. I really didnt “finish” it. I didnt sand anything or put a finish on any of the wood. I kind of like it that way! Maybe if i get ambitious I’ll take it all apart and make it look nice!
