I finished this project a couple of months ago. My wife saw a potato and onion box on the cover of a magazine and said that she wanted one for our cabin so I went onto Sketchup for a couple of hours. Came up with a design that worked, its 3’ tall and 16”x16”. The wood is big box store laminated pine and was just alright to work with. There are alot of rabbeted edges and some dado cuts for the shelf inside. Its all reinforced on the inside corners with scraps of pine and there are some pocket screws. I trimmed the top edge with some cedar trim after making a cutting error. 2 coats of shellac were used to seal the wood and the knots. My mom is a country craft painter so I had her put the final touches on the lid and drawer front. My wife liked it so much she wanted it in the kitchen of our house and has asked me to build another one for the cabin.

Looks Great! Your mom did a great job painting it. You should have made it about an 1 1/2” shorter though, so you could slide it under the counter top. But I guess you didn’t think about that because you designed it for the cabin not your kitchen.
Thanks,
Kyle

Funny, i said the exact same thing to my wife. I just had it against the island for the photo, Ive moved it to another part of the kitchen against a wall because of the height difference.

Cheers.

Nice work… and nice art work that sets it a notch above. It could have several uses… bulk pet food? ... laundry hamper? Something for the young’uns to crawl into and get stuck playing hide and seek.

The project boards from the big box store probably as good as anything for such a project.
