I like the simple but most pleasing design, The bottom center dovetailed spider is so very well done , one thing I wonder about is the screws impending wood movement and lower shelf wood movement issues. Overall a wonderful beautiful table .Nice nice work.

Very nicely done. In regards to Jim’s concern, I think the screws are inboard enough to not have a problem with seasonal movement. This should be an heirloom. Thanks for the post.

With the beautiful work you do how could I debate with you Tim. I think to be on the safe side I would elongate the screws holes in the direction of the wood movement anyhow.Just my take on it.

I agree with you Jim, that’s what I would have done, but since one of the screws is centered in the middle board and the rest are no more than 4” apart, I doubt this center board (quarter sawn white oak) would shrink or expand more than 1/16”, worst case. which is negligible. Didn’t want Hickeymad to worry about it.

Good point Tim hadn’t thought about the 1/4 saw part .See I shouldn’t have debated :)) I’m sorry to be a distraction when the focus should be on Hickeymads great table.

Thanks guys! I debated about the screws for just the same reason, but decided to risk it especially given the minimal movement of quartersawn oak. Kept the screws towards the center just in case, as Tim mentioned. I love this place – I can’t discuss these sorts of details with the wife!
