Guitar Amplifier Stand

After purchasing my guitar amplifier I found that a nice stand that would place it higher and at a slight angle would aim the sound towards me rather than to the floor.

I searched for suitable options but cost and/or stability made most options unsuitable (I have two kids and a large dog) so I needed a very stable platform. I found something that I liked at Ampendage
I didn’t like that it was made out of MDF, but the design had promise.

I made a prototype out of some left over particle board that was lying around and discovered that angling the vertical pieces makes the platform very stable, I also discovered that the top needs to be offset about 2 inches forward on the base to prevent the amp from tipping over.

With those lessons learned I decided to use a pre-laminated pine shelf board from a local building supply company. 1 16”x36” board yielded all of the necessary pieces with very little waste. The base is 16”x13” deep and has a curved front to make it look a little less heavy. The top is 12”x11” deep, and the uprights are 8”deep by 8 1/2” at the front and 7” at the rear. I used knock down furniture fasteners in case I ever needed to take it apart. I made one for a friend in Georgia, so it was able to be shipped in a “pizza box”.

I used a Stainless steel cupboard handle to support the amplifier at the back. It is inset 1” from the back edge of the top.

For finish I used water based products from Minwax, first 2 applications of rosewood stain then 6 coats of high closs clear polyeurethane.

Nice. I’ve been wanting to build an amp stand for along time. Thanks for the inspiration.
