I needed a place to keep my rolls of adhesive backed sandpaper and I needed it to be close at hand. I ran across this plan at PlansNow. Very straight forward with all butt joints construction. I cut a rabbit on lid edge for hacksaw blade used to cut the sandpaper. A dovetail grove in the lid as well to hold the paper used to identify what grit in inside the bins. On the back is a “French cleat” I will use to mount the boxes on my sanding center (which is the next project) when it is complete. The paint was purchased at our local Habitat for Humanity ReStore and the wood is reclaimed from the curb when our town has its annual cleanup day.

Cool sandpaper boxes – I must say I am not a fan of the silver paint, but I love my local Habitat store!
Look forward to seeing the sanding center when it is finished.

Great idea. Where do you get your rolls of sand paper?

Bsmith – I have been very fortunate in getting my sandpaper rolls at estate auctions. Seems like every estate has/had a woodworker that used this stuff. I bet I have 50 full to partial rolls of ever grit stored away.
I know the Woodsmith Store carries the rolls.

You can get rolls of sand paper at grizzley. They are 4 1/2 wide and 30’ long.

What are the cuts on the face in the front of each roll? To see how much of the role is left?

TommyTee: the cuts are to allow you to push your finger through to pull out the tag end of the roll inside, and I to see if there is any in the cavity.
I have been using these for awhile now, I couldn’t be any happier with them. I did not realize this before but the dispensers keeps the “sticky” side cleaner then the boxes the rolls come in.
