Just finished this for my sister in Law. She wanted an island with 4 drawers, and 1 side had to have specific shelf sizes to accomodate some large cookware. One side has fixed shelves and the other side has 3 spaces for adjustable shelves.
I was able to recycle drawers from a friends home remodeling project to make the drawers for the island.
We used Red-Oak plywood for the casing with Red Oak trim. I then stained with a stain from Sherman Williams called Oak Mantel and my clear coat is tung oil.
My brother and I made a maple butcher block top for this last year and will attach when we install.
