Project Information

Finished my lamps to round out the bedroom set I've been working on for a few years. All that remains is the dresser. That's going to be next year after I get back from Afghanistan…

Like the rest of the furniture they're made from Walnut, Purpleheart, and koa veneer (over cherry for the post and top shade support arms). I used kozo paper (a type of rice paper) for the shades. Honestly I wish it was a little more amber and not so bright white. That's easy enough to change if I decide to later on, though.

I couldn't get a good picture of what they look like with just the base lights lit in the bedroom. Here's a picture of one under construction on my bench:

Thanks, bigike (and others). I just sort of drew them up in sketchup. Making room for the switches was tricky, and it was difficult to find t-couplers for the lamp rod (got them at antiquelampsupply.com - they're called "arm ends"). I learned that the thread used in lighting is sized as international pipe thread, and distinctly different from NPT. PM me if you want the sketchup files.

I got the rice paper from eshoji.com
