Eye container

Ever have one of those boards with a knot that seems to stare at you like it was an eye? I had this board for a few months now, no matter where I seemed to put it, I could always see it staring at me. So one day, I carved it into an eye.. for no other purpose than to send it out the door. Recently I got an email from a friend of mine that her partner collects boxes… and if I could make one for her birthday. I dislike making boxes .. but here was the opportunity to get this creepy thing out of my sight. I just won’t tell her, I think the eye is creepy.. LOL. I had some spare test parts sitting around so I made the container from a piece of fir and stained it Violet… sanding back until the figuring was visible again. The eye and base is Hickory. Not perfect by any means, but I finished it last night… shipping it out tomorrow.

Lends a whole new meaning to the phrase “I’ll keep an eye out for you.”

Ha! The box has an eye ‘lid’. Good job on the carving of it. I remember seeing this guy at art shows that made eyes by sandwiching taxidermy eyes in between two pieces of leather. The slit in the top piece fit snugly around the eyeball and he carved some wrinkles all around so that the whole thing looked sort of alive.

I think it’s creepy too, but in an EYE-catching sort of way…(I had to) Very cool! I’m sure the collector loved it!

Are you sure someone’s not in there? It looks real enough for me. You certainly had a good eye to see this eye-popping opportunity; gotta always be ready, peices like that can get away from you before you can blink your…well, you get the idea. Nice work. Thanks for sharing.

I think you should put one o them eyeball bubble gums out of a bubble gum machine in there. I think it blinked when I looked at it…
