Candle Holders

I saw a candle holder project on the Woodsmith TV show just before Christmas and thought that a candle holder was a simple enough project to complete as a present and use up some of my odds and ends.

The candle holder on the show held six candles and was, at least in my opinion, a little too large. I liked the overall design and made three of them. I finished one in time for Christmas and the photos only show the last two since I didn’t finish these until later.

The woods used are Poplar and Padauk while the finish is Minwax (spray can) Lacquer. The glass luminaries are from an local crafts store and so are the LED candles (one of my friends is allergic to real candle fumes).

A great use of poplar – so often just painted over because it’s “poplar”. I saw the same show – I have some mahogany picked out for some.

You did a great job, and nice adaptation of their design for your tastes and needs. Nicely done!

Yes, these are really nice. The Paduk strips in the middle look like end grain glue-ups(a weak joint). Or are these just strips wrapping around?

The Paduk are actually slices that separate the Poplar pieces and, biscuits were used to hold all 5 pieces together.
I was using scrap wood so alternatives were somewhat limited as to the final assembly.
