I just HAD to buy a tri-level, so now I live in my own “gated” community. The gates are made from 3/4 beetle kill pine. The rails are 3/4 square with a 3” spacing to keep small heads out (my 1 year old son). It had to cover both stairs but I only wanted one attachment point, so I made them bi-fold. The 1-1/4” wheels do a good job of holding the weight and making it easy to open. The upstairs single gate is hung from a new post. I am planning on building handrails later so that everything will match.

I am amazed at your work, particulary considering your size. You can barely lift that hammer!
Nice gate, and a good design. Where did you get the wood?

spunwood: LOL !!! But doesn’t he look proud ?
RockyBlue: ridiculously cute kid :-)
I’m really enjoying the beetle-kill—tragedy though it may be, for some of our forests. Smart build, and very nicely done !
Thanks for posting !
BTW: the stairs help keep you in shape for skiing !
