This instrument build is more a carving then a real play everday instrument. The neck is a butternut tree branch, with bone inlayed frets and carved out scoops at each fret. The carved bears head on the peghead end has glass eyes and bone teeth. There`s a bone inlayed bears paw on the bottom of the black walnut frame. The box was made with butternut wood front and back, cherry wood on the sides., the wood grubs did a nice carved look to them. 1/16” ash top and bottom, I carved a bone rosette for the soundhole. Bone hand rest on the tailend with a bone bridge. The istrument has only 2 strings but is playable.

Another awesome instrument from Randy S Bretz. He is a true craftsman that makes musically functional art. Visit Randy's page at the Handmade Music Clubhouse, a network of builders & players of all types of home made instruments. Warning: this is a highly addictive hobby!
