Repair of footboard turned into a completely new look. One post rail catch just tore apart, so I had to repair that and it turned into a completer reno…...Stripped down and woodburned. I can take pics of the repair if requested, but i’m not an expert woodworker. I used minwax wood fill for instance. Then realized it’s gray…..lol….I didn’t paint. Fortunately the repair is the rail catch so no one will see that. This bed used to be solid dark stained. I think it’s a major improvement.

OK, I’ll ask….... is that supposed to be you and your wife?

I’m making a sun burst casing for a half round window and I plan to have the rays fan to the right the way you did. That’s a cool look.
Did you do any research for the design or did you freehand it?

I had a client that had me make a duplicate headboard similar to yours. It was a 1910 mahogany antique that belonged to a relative. Our plan was to strip and finish the old one so they both match. Well, she has a friend she plays bridge with who told her NOT to refinish it. I would be willing to agree if it didn’t look like shit.

I have a feeling she may have me strip it eventually. She said she doesn’t want to deal with it until after “bridge season” Ha.

Good job.

Hey Mark, Thanks. She is the love of my life. I had the sun and moon theme in mind. Considered the moon on the headboard, but it is a low headboard so any images would be covered by pillows. I browsed around the internet at sun and moon images for ideas. Obviously not all that original, but putting her face in was an idea I had, since the traditional sun faces are ugly….lol….boring at least. And it seems, different cultures, different style faces. I didn’t want to get into which culture theme it would be.
The moon is no one in particular. I had already drawn the moon when I thought of imposing my girl’s face in the sun, and was too lazy to attempt a self moon portrait, but it was a consideration. The windblown rays are my design but the idea is borrowed of course. The only thing missing is rain and snow…oh, and clouds (o: All is from my sketch.
The headboard will have stars, probably at least one shooting…......Haven’t started that yet.
This footboard isn’t antique. Probably 40 years old. I wish I knew what kind of wood it is. My guess is spruce, but I don’t know much about wood. The one gripe I have is the one panel that darkened. Right across the face…..couldn’t have been the bottom piece of course.

I wouldn’t have noticed if you hadn’t of said something!. Hey, nothing is perfect. We are such critics!

You should have made your face the moon! Now someone could say. “Who’s that guy in bed with your wife?

Didn’t your very lovely wife give you a hard time about it? Too funny.

Still looks good.

PS. You can edit this and add pics of the head board shooting star later if you want. I would.
