The Pastor of our church asked me to build three
railings to access the alter
They had to be Wood and free standing, easer said than done.
I built them out of 1 X 1 square steel tubing with a 5/16 X 2 X 4
steel plate welded to the bottom, so they could be bolted to the floor
and I welded a threaded steel insert at the top for attaching a 1/4 X 1
steel bar that goes between the front and rear posts
Then I made some 1/4 thick Oak sleeves to slide over the tubing
and wood plates to hide the bolts.
I cut a one inch wide 1/4 deep dado on the bottom of the top Oak rail
to hide the top steel bar thus hiding all the steel parts

Mike, you put in a lot of thoughtful planning that only comes with experience.
It looks great. Tony
