Made this for my mom for her birthday. Got the design from a FWW article and really enjoyed the challenge of the inlay, but also the multi part finish to get the White Oak to the final color using Shellac, an Amber tint, Stain, and then Poly. I have always been a rubbed oil kind of guy and this was a test of my patience with all those steps. I spent a lot of time on the joinery for this and even bought a new shoulder plane to fine tune the tenons. The hardest part was packing it up and shipping off to CO to my mom. Pix include a before I sent it and after once she hung it and loaded it up with knick knacks. Enjoy!

I used Transtint, honey amber, then shellac, then early american Minwax stain, then 3 poly topcoats. The whole process is actually laid out in FWW. I don’t know the issue off hand, but it was in the last 6 months.

Hi Shannon,
I don’t know how I missed this when you originally posted it but I am glad it came back up on my review list. I am a fan of arts and craft style furniture. You did a good job with this piece. The finish looks good and it is well constructed. I am sure that your mother enjoyed the present.
Thanks for the post. And I will be more diligent in the future.
