This carving was made from a Ruger Gun ad in a magazine.
I did something different with this carving. First I stained it with a light walnut, Then I brushed on the darker stain to highlight things.
White Pine, with Red Oak frame.

The shadows on the water just bring it to life.

Dick, I really like this piece! Excellent work. The color and shadow details really bring the scene to life.

I don’t hunt, & I quit fishing. I guess I’ll have to change it to an Axe, or chainsaw.

It’s more fun chiseling on something. Besides I never get skunked.

Very nice,When the relief carving is at different levels how do you get the frame to sit level on the carving that there would be no gabs, between the frame and carving.

beautiful. If you like playing with stain and coloring, you would probably enjoy using an airbrush. I started about a year ago using an airbrush to shadow and color my carvings by tinting clear lacquer with tint dyes I bought from Mohawk.. If you want help finding and airbrush, let me know and I will send the link to where I bought mine.

keep posting,
Mark

Brian, in answer to your question. ”How do you get the frame to sit level on the carving that there would be no gabs, between the frame and carving”?
Go to the mining scene carving, and I’ll explain it there, because it’s a more self explanatory carving. I’ll add some more images, in order to see it more clearly. http://lumberjocks.com/projects/94

Thanks Mark.
I’ve looked at airbrush equipment, & often contemplated on trying it some day. It’s still one of the many things on my list.
