I built this for my wife for Valentine’s Day. The material is Padauk with a strip of
maple laminated in the top. It has a hidden music movement that starts when
the lid is opened. I used black felt to line the inside with. The plans came from Woodcraft.
This was a fun project to build and was my first attempt with an exotic wood like Padauk.

Very lovely little box. Strikingly attractive, yet simple design and elegant execution. Really nice work.

Wonderful music box : )
Which tune did you choose ?
What finish did you apply ?

I used a musical movement from Rockler, the tune is greesleves.
The finish is several coats of wipe-on poly I used no stain. The
Paduauk wood will darken a little with age.

Greensleeves is a great melody : )
I thought that your box was Bloodwood at first , but I also had used an oil based finish on Padauk before and it got really dark like yours is. Did you get any color “bleed” onto the Maple from the Padauk like I did ?
