Here is another skill builder. My last project, I took on hand cut dovetails and now I decided it was time to cut my teeth on finger joints. I’m ready to officially say, these were a lot easier:P What intimidated me about finger joints ( box joints) were all the intricate and elaborate jigs I’ve seen for them. Once I got past my hesitation I realized a basic jig was really quite simple.
The box was just my practice boards that I shaped into a box for my wife. I realized once I started playing with it, that the fingers were too thick (3/8”) but figured I could turn it into something nice enough. Hopefully the dimensions of the box make the fat fingers look intentional :D. Anyway, It’s solid cherry with a redwood board with a knot I’ve been saving for just such an occasion. The whole thing was dyed red for no apparent reason and the bottom is lined with a faux leather fabric.
