Took advantage of the recent warm(ish) weather, and spent a little time at the lathe. I was going to make this back around Christmas, but time was not on my side.
Just a simple two-tone plate, 7 inches in diameter, in bamboo.
if you’re interested in a little bit of the how too, check out my blog: http://wp.me/p18Kn-41
Had fun with this, and would like to make more… but not until I get myself some Cole Jaws. They would save me a ton of time, and some minor issues with reverse mounting – primarily removing, and cleaning up the bottom.
I spent just about as much time sharpening the chisels as I spent turning… this bamboo was tough! Way tougher than the pens I’d turned previously.
*wait, you said “simple?”... tell me about that glue up…
Not much to tell… just a quick trip down the clearance aisle at Homegoods, scored me a $5 cutting board that was too small for any practical use, and WAY cheaper than the stock I’d need to glue up. Wouldn’t THAT have been fun?

This is really, really cool! Its beautiful, your use of grain, color and your lay-out is excellant!
(Well you would have made that way if you had not found it that way!)

looks great Scott!
we’ve talked a lot about vacuum chucks in my turner’s group. that could be an alternative to your cole jaws issue.
Have your say...
