This work was done for a number of reasons.
First, I love the Beatles and this image is an icon – it just HAD to be done! ;-)
Second, I wanted to give a gift to a recent customer who just went through some trying times.
Third, I also wanted to do this image for a friend of mine who also loves the Fab Four.
So, this naturally called for – Stack Cutting!
The wood I chose for this is Rainbow Poplar – I think the funky colors suit this image well.
Piece measures around 5×11 and is 3/16 of an inch thick.
I was a tad hesitant of doing all three pieces in a single stack, but I used a brand new #3 blade and it went very smoothly with little to no “fuzzies” on the back. I used Steve Good’s method of only using packing tape on all four sides – no tape in between layers at all – worked very well and had an easy time removing the tape when finished as a bonus!
Finish was a soak in lemon oil and backed with thick felt.
