My granddaughter decided that she would like to have a cradle for her doll this past Christmas so I set about putting one together for her. This one is of my own design (guesswork) and is made of mahogany with oak trim pieces, except for the heart on the headboard, which is beech. The whole thing has a polyurethane finish for durability. What can’t be seen are the 4 steel all-thread rods running the length of the side—rails for strength (kids seem to be able to break most things around our house). So I made my mortises for the slats a bit deeper and buried the rods there. The oak trim hides the nuts holding it all together. The oak wood trim pieces are milled from some old oak trees on our farm that sacrificed themselves to the wind in order that we might have a ready supply of lumber for heirlooms. It was really a fun project. Thanks for looking at it.

Lovely. I’m adding this to my list of things to make when the time comes. ; )
