I got the pattern for this from a newspaer ad clipping. It looked interesting. The log in the lower right was a knot in the board. It took 3rd place at a juried woodcarving show.
Dimensions: 1 1/2” X 11” X 15” finish is 1 coat of Watco light walnut, Danish Oil, on White Pine.

You must have been up against some real tough competition, Dick. This is a very nice piece.
We did a trip down the St. Lawrence River on the Gaspe Peninsula, two years ago. One of the highlights for me was the many small shops where carvings were sold. We purchased two small rocking chair figures and have them proudly displayed in our house.
I would have loved to find one as nice as this.

If this took third, the judges were in aha! it’s top shelf carving all the way! Very nice job.

I like the way you incorporated the knot into the end of the log.

this is wonderful – cute, wonderful craftmanship and working with the knot makes it brilliant as well.

Ok, one last Cain carving piece to comment on and then I’ll stop. Great work Dick. Not knowing much about carving (which is why I’m looking around here at some of the work) I think a successful piece makes you feel some emotion from the subject matter. Not just a 3D picture if I’m explaining myself properly. This work is a great example of that I think. Anyway, beautiful piece and now I’ll stop. Again, thanks for posting this so we could see it.

Thanks Chip, & all the above.
I didn’t mention where I got the pattern for this carving. It was a sales advertisement drawing in our local shopper. I don’t know who drew it , but I have to give thanks to the person who created the original. I’m always clipping pictures out of mags. & papers for carving patterns.
Don’t stop making compliments on my work. They don’t make hat sizes big enough, so it doesn’t matter how much bigger my head gets. LOL

Thank you for your interest, but I never sell anything.
I only do this for our own pleasure.
