This is a scrub plane I just finished making. I have the book Making & Mastering Wood Planes by David Finck and just read some of the books by James Krenov and was inspired to make some wood planes. So I bought a 1 1/2” curved Hock blade from LeeValley to make a scrub plane. I decided to make a scrub plane first incase my percision in making the plane wasn’t as high as needed in a smoothing plane. I chose to put a handle on the plane unlike the other planes of this style because I thought it might make it less tiring on my grip when doing a lot of roughing. The plane is 12” long with a 45 degree bed angle. The body and handle are made of walnut and the wedge of maple. I was surprised when I had the plane ready to use and I took my first cut on popular and it worked. They really are easy planes to make and using them are very satisfying. I am soon going to make some more planes.
