I made a Lie-Nielsen shoulder plane from a kit a while back (here is the blog). I wanted to make a box to put it in and finally got around to it. This is made from wenge and quilted maple. I added a leather outline of the plane for it to sit in. The quilted maple had some imperfections that I covered with the wenge circle inlays. I also wanted to create a unique lid handle that would complement the inlays. The finish is Tung oil.

Beautiful box and plane. Nice work. I love my tools, but your box iseems more appropriate for jewelry than a hard working tool. I’ll definately check out your blog.
Thank for posting

Nothing “plane” about that! Too pretty to put in my shop though… Would make all the other tools jealous.

That’s a beautiful box Jerry looks like it belongs on a dressing table not in the shop. If my wife saw my plane in a box like that the plane would be looking for another home.
Nice job

Thanks for the comments. I forgot to add that the leather insert comes out if my wife decides she wants it for something else :>). I wanted to just make a box out of scraps but I got carried away forgetting what I was making it for.

This is very nice, great design and strong contrasting woods.
