I showed a friend at work the dresser project and he told me about a friend(Mike) of his that was attempting to build a bonus room above his garage, but was failing miserably and now willing to pay for help.

Mike had promised his wife built in shelves in all the knee-walls and a bookshelf in the office area. Some of the shelves needed doors to hide the kid’s toys and he also wanted a window seat and a nice enclosure for the laundry chute.

I got involved before the sheetrock was hung. Built 3/4” mdf boxes and framed them into the studs. After the rock and texture, I went back and mounted face frames and doors. The doors are pocket screwed poplar with raised mdf panelling.

The window seat is another mdf box to which I attached a raised panel front and piano-hinged top.

The bookshelves are faced with knotty-alder.

When Mike saw the completed bookshelves, he wished he had asked for the whole project in knotty alder.
