Fantastic craftsmanship. How do you close the bottom?

The back and the bottom are made with scrap pieces of cedar fencing.
The bark is attached with small box nails.
The bark is first treated with a mild solution of laundry borax and allowed to dry for at least six months.
The final finish is shellac.
