no jake I started with it between centers and shaped the bottom and created a tenion and then mounted in a chuck turned the top and then used vacuum chuck to turn off the tenion the last couple of these I did on a smaller scale I ussed a screw chuck to start with and then cut a tenion for the scroll chuck

It certainly looks like a very nice piece of wood; cotton wood is something I have never had the pleasure to experience. Your winged bowl looks good, and shows this crotch very well. Too bad some of the edge bark didn’t stay on for you. Hard to tell from this picture, but it looks as if the wing is a consistent thickness and thin also. And I really like the protruding rim on the bowl…..... yes, very nice piece for sure, can see why it is one of your favorites.

thanks for the comments Brain there was no bark on it to start with just was lucky to catch this piece before it turned punky I was given this crotch I had never thought to turn cottonwood since it is so soft but it was given to me so i gave it a shot had no idea that it would have any beauty to this wood
