Two Silver Maple Gavels

These two are made from some silver maple limbs that were in my firewood pile. I turned a lot better than I thought it would. Almost too easy… The one with the larger head has some large worm eaten places. These were turned as spindles on my HF lathe. I used epoxy to attach the handles.

Very nice job on the gavels. Nice detail on the heads.
Have you ever used a wire burner for making grooves? They really stand out on light wood like maple.

Jim, I have used one now and then. Just don’t think of it when I am turning stuff. I need to hang a wire above my lathe to remind me. Thanks!
