A little over a year ago, I ordered 800 BF of white oak and my best friend Andy Anderson helped me unload it from the flatbed semi that delivered it. Since it was 4/4 and in the rough, Andy (who is not really into wood working), commented that it was some really ugly wood. About two weeks ago Andy asked if i could make him a gun cabinet I figured it was appropriate to use the “ugly wood” for his cabinet. IMHO, I think it turned out OK.

That ‘ugly’ wood sure turned out a nice project. Darn rough cut sawmill lumber has cost me a fortune! Years ago I got a book that showed how to make outdoor furniture from 2X4’s. Since then I’ve bought enough woodworking tools that my final purchase was a sawmill! Now I’m trying to make enough money with my woodworking shop to buy a bobcat or tractor to move logs to the mill and stacks of lumber to my solar kiln. (that I have to build) Gee, what some people will do for cheep woodworking supplies.

Nice job! There are alot of people in this world that don’t see the beauty of what lies beneath the surface. I have some Blue Oak in the rough as well and when I made Cabniet doors out of them they were amazed.
Well done.
