Project Information

In between working on commissions I always toy with something else. It partly explains why I have so many unfinished projects standing around! Sometimes I loose interest because the piece just doesn't appeal to me a few days down the line… I might chop and change at some point…I've even scrapped a few. Some do get completed like this one but I am never truly satisfied with the results….the creative process can be extremely frustrating to me at times!

The chair with no name consists of 6 pieces of 18mm Pine plywood, biscuit jointed together. Once the patterns have been established it can be built very quickly. That was part of the idea: design a contemporary chair that is very economical to produce. Let's call this one the production prototype!

I have since decided that the Pine look doesn't work for me. A paint spray job is on the cards. Maybe just a plain white and then add an upholstered seat insert to spice it up a little.

Any suggestions for a name? Comments, critique and suggestions will be appreciated. Give it to me, I can take the punch!

Looks Sharky to me - I'll go with Pete's Mako - it was my first impression

another vote for 'batman' - though that's not a good name for a chair and more of what it reminds me of. Of course maybe you could capitalize on all of the recent interest in vampires again - paint it black and red andcall it 'the Count' :)
It's a bit chunky on the side - maybe cut the inside part of the back leg up a tad higher, then angle down to the front as you have but open it up a bit more.

My English is bad, my knowledge about S.Africa limited. So ,I apologize if I wrote something wrong.

Div,

I'd take those sharp corners off the top of the chair. If someone falls on the chair, it's going to punch like a spear.

Oddly, Batman was the first impression it made on me as well, but I agree it doesn't seem like a chair name.

However, how about "Gotham"? Still relates to the Batman idea, but with a little more sophistication.

I like the design: I might try one held together with notches and slots so it can be knocked down flat and thrown in the truck for camping. (not backpacking ~ truck camping) Needs a Beer holder on the side.
