Here are some Christmas ornaments I made on the lathe. These are based off of ornament kits available from woodworking stores. I used two different styles of the kits on the ornaments. The kits use a pen turning mandrel and have a brass tube that goes in the center of the piece similar to with pens. Once the piece is finished the two ends are pressed in. The ornaments are made out of Osage orange and red heart.

They look great. What are the sizes of these and where can you get the kits.

I used 1.5” turning stock. So the final dimension is a little under 1.5” diameter.

I got my kits at Woodcraft, but I know Rockler also stocks them. They are sold under the name “Ornament Kit”. If you want to make them for Christmas buy them early as the stores are apt to run out leading up to the holiday.
