So this is a set of chairs I made to match a dining table I made for my dad. He wanted a dining table, and I convinced him that he needed chair to match (of course!). I thought it would be a good opportunity at chair production experience (I even learned some upholstry). I had never made a set by myself. They are made from Silver Oak (one of my favorites, though considered a pest species here in Hawaii) with Milo details, finished with about three coats of spray on lacquer. I made five (extra one just in case) and turned the fifth one into a rocker. Its one of those rockers that when you sit down you feel like your gona fall backwards. I think I should have put the feet closer to the front of the rocker. I love getting my parents to commission work, I get the experience and it stays where I can see it often! Luckily I don’t have allergic reactions to the silk oak, but I protect myself. However, towards the end, I thought I was getting a little rash on my hands.

Those chairs are beautiful. Did you make them from plans or your own design? Either way, nice work!

Your workmanship is really top-notch. The wood is beautiful, too. They look fabulous with your table. Thanks for posting.

Very nice chairs. I like that grain of the Silver Oak. Were the trees very big? Good color choice for the rocker.

Very nice work. I made a single very similar chair a couple of years ago. I decided it would be best as a desk chair since I couldn’t imaging making five more. Kudos to you. I’m sure your father will enjoy having the entire dining set.
Cheers,

Thanks everyone. They were my own design, though I got the legs from a template we already had in the shop. Im not sure how big the trees were, but im assuming quite big since the boards were 8/4” and 7-8” wide
Have your say...
