Simple chess board using red oak and dark chestnut, with quilted maple for the boarder. First time I tried that profile on the edge, I think I’d prefer a roundover. Had a piece of felt that I glued and cut to fit, but it didn’t come out as clean as I would have liked. Since I have brought it to the house the kids have put two dents in it that will have to be worked out, but oh well, its being put to good use.

Dents from use, a true badge of honor! It looks great!

I like the contrast. I’ve been trying to decide on which woods to use for a large chess / checker board for my girls. Outside use too, so I was considering a rather large size. Thanks for the post.
