I always wanted to try my hand at making signs, seemed like a lot of fun so when Debra told me she needed a couple of signs for her massage clinic I jumped at the chance. We found the font she liked for the letters and then decided on the size. I used MS Word for the font and made them the appropriate size, then I carefully cut out the letters and glued to the wood. With the scroll saw I carefully and in some cases painfully cut the letters out. I had never used a scroll saw before so this was a great learning experience for me. Once the letter were all cut out I sanded and cleaned them up before priming and painting them. The board for the letters to be attached I re-sawed some reclaimed wood from a water bed frame. I use super glue to attach the letters. We decided to hang the sighs from some ribbon, I think they turned out well for my first attempt at sign making. Thank for looking!!!

Those are some nice first signs. Well done on your first use of the scroll saw.

Are the letters cut out of birch plywood?

yes I used birch plywood for the letters. My thinking was the stability of the wood; I cut some pretty thin points on some of the letters.

I thought it would be fun to show everyone how the signs look hung up. So far all of Debra’s clients really like the signs.
